DIY Lake House Wreath

A few weeks ago we met our family at the lake for the day. Mom and I have been working on making it more of a home,  than a lake house,  since my brother will be living there eventually. I shop thrift stores regularly and was able to find several prints and even a couple of oil paintings with nautical/ fishing boats/ship scenes. My brother likes sailboats,  so I especially kept my eye peeled for them and I was able to find several, to my delight.

But there is a long entrance hallway with a long bare wall…that needed something.  I don’t know why I never thought of it before,  because I enjoy making wreaths.  Why not make a Lake House Wreath?

 Why not?  But, I’d never seen a lake themed wreath and had no idea what to put on it.  My wreaths usually have hydrangeas and roses. 😉  I had a picked up a couple of shelves to hang at the lake house.  I had picked up items to put on the shelves, along with a few ‘fishing’ things  from Hobby Lobby….(don’t you love how you can find anything from any theme at Hobby Lobby? I do, too. )

I checked eBay and had found a couple large bobbers. I was planning on putting them on the shelf….but then it dawned on me they would be perfect on the wreath! I had bought metal fish with a towel hook…I snapped the hook off and just used the fish….

This small lantern came from Goodwill… just the right size. 

And the anchor came from Hobby Lobby. 

Flowers were not exactly in order for a lake house wreath.  Instead I found cattails! How perfect is that? And some seaweed type grasses. I already had lots of artificial succulents…they were perfect.

And the bow…eehh…It was just laying around so, I used it to cover some “work”….totally unnecessary. 

In the end,  this turned out to be one of my favorite wreaths,  ever. And I make a lot of wreaths~ What I especially enjoy is thinking outside the box and being creative. Like here and here…..It’s ok to use a grapevine wreath….but sometimes…..you can use an embroidery hoop…..or  a hula hoop….use your imagination!

I told you I had found paintings at Goodwill (I’m always shocked at the things people throw away!!! One day I’ll tell you of some of my most wonderful finds…haha)  Look at this painting….oil on canvas…it’s perfect. It’s from the 1950’s. The colors are perfect with the pale salmon walls. They’re much richer than this shows…

This cute lamp with burlap shade came from Goodwill… so did the ‘Family’ sign and the aqua bottle….I filled it with leftover stems of acorns.

I so enjoyed creating this Lake House Wreath.  The wreath is pretty big, over 24 inches tall, so, it serves its purpose in the entry hallway, perfectly.  

Hope this inspires you to think outside the box…. or inside the tackle box…:)
