Fairy Pumpkin Village

Fairy Pumpkin Village

Don’t you just love making memories for children?  My husband is always telling me stories of the things he and his cousins did as children. I’m in awe of their innocence and the fun little adventures they had.  Huck Finn and  Tom Sawyer had nothing on those boys!  I want to make the little memories of our children, just as magical.  One of my most favorite traditions in the Fall, is our Fairy Pumpkin Village.  The children are always enthralled with it.

My Pumpkin Patch

I saw a picture in a magazine of the pumpkin village, forever ago.  I kept the picture for years and when we started having our Pumpkin Patch Party, I had to make one.

It’s easy, especially if you recruit your husband to help… 😉   You can make it as small or large as you like.  Begin by cleaning out your pumpkins and cutting the top out as you would a jack O lantern. I used 3:   2 medium and 1 large pumpkin.

Doll house fixtures are perfect to use in the village. I bought a door and two windows, a chandelier and candelabra and the lights beside the front door that really work!  I found miniature rabbits and tables to go inside,  and of course…the main attraction:  a fairy Christmas tree ornament.

Little pots of flowers, boxwood leaves, vines and glass marbles and various little candles made up the landscape. It can be as ornate or plain as you like. I found little pots and things around the house to use with greenery and candles… It changes each year….

Mine was featured on the front page of our newspaper one year….in color and above the fold!  After the party, I place it  beside my front door, so all the little trick or treaters can see it!  I don’t know who gets the most pleasure ~ the children who see it for the first time or the parents watching their children’s faces.

So this year, instead of just making a plain ol’ Jack O lantern…why not put some magic in your Halloween with a Fairy Pumpkin Village!  And when you do,  you’ll be making some special memories your little trick o treaters will always remember!    Happy Fall Y’all!

It’s lovely to see the traditions of other countries. I love pumpkin, I use a variety called Jaradale as roast pumpkin and pumpkin soup.
